Dear Guest,

The photos above are terrific - it is our Tasmanian WNA membership group enjoying lunch and wisdom from the dynamic and resilient Belinda Shaw in Hobart last week. While it may seem like our nation and our WNA membership is spread far and wide, hearing positive stories from events like this one makes it all worthwhile and keeps us all connected. The WNA leadership team is always keen to support new events and ideas, so reach out if we can help run an event in your state in the near future.

Today I am excited to host our inaugural Charity High Tea in support of Women's Legal Service Queensland. All of our attendees are looking forward to exceptional conversations with The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO and Lady Mayoress of Brisbane Nina Schrinner as well as a few canapes, champers, and winning a raffle prize or two! There are many fabulous prizes to be won and you can find the list here. More importantly, every dollar we contribute will support women and children who need vital legal assistance to help them through domestic violence challenges and move towards a safe and positive future.

WNA is keen to provide more fun and enlightening events for members over the next few months. Socialise at Sunset is booked for 9 April and you can reserve your spot further on! We are also looking forward to bringing you two bright events to support the evolution of business in Brisbane in mid and late April! If you are hosting any private business events in other states in the near future, make sure you reach out to your local WNA leader or myself!

There is still time to nominate a woman who is excelling in business or her community here via the Women's Agenda Leadership Awards 2021! And don't be shy, if you have been an inspiring or successful person in your field, you can nominate yourself too! With Easter gift ideas and chocolate front of mind, make sure you keep sharing your product and event ideas in our WNA Facebook Group!

Janet Camilleri's WNA Blog this week was very fitting considering the strain on my body after packing the car for the Charity High Tea today - Reformer Pilates sounds like just the thing to help fix this! When my days get busy with meetings, taking my son to and from school, cooking dinner, ringing clients and members, and completing the many tasks we all have to do, exercise does tend to fall to the bottom of the pile. It's a good reminder for me to put exercise back in my diary and commit!

For a little something else, I have added in a few quick and easy soup recipes that will keep you healthy and satisfied. With a large butternut pumpkin sitting in my pantry, I think I am headed for my Thai favourite! You can also read about a new Easter cinema release and how to acquire free movie tickets, and also read about another important calendar day - National Puppy Day!

I'm off to our Charity High Tea now for Conversations on the Couch and to catch up with many of you. Thank you as always for your support of WNA and please reach out if I can assist with anything.

Janelle ♥

Our WNA Charity High Tea is on today and I am incredibly grateful for the support of our contributors, WNA members and friends. I am also full of pride for the work our Charity partner Women's Legal Service Queensland (WLSQ) does for women and families experiencing tough challenges in their lives.

WLSQ began as a volunteer service offering telephone legal advice, counselling, and support from a room on a verandah at Women's House Shelter at West End. Even at the formative stage of the Service's development, there was a strong emphasis on a holistic approach to responding to women's legal issues - with lawyers and support workers operating as a team. A cooperative model of both social work and legal practice remains in WLSQ's service delivery today.

Many years on from its humble beginnings on the verandah of Women's House, WLSQ is a passionate advocate for the rights, safety and justice of Queensland women, providing legal assistance to those who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault or other forms of violence against women.

Make sure you read up on all of the great work WLSQ does here and if someone you love needs help, please pass on these important emergency numbers.

You can still purchase raffle tickets which have been selling like crazy right up until 12pm AEST today! Thank you for your support so far. Every ticket we sell helps support vulnerable women and children with their legal costs and moving forward positively with their lives.

We have already spoken about some fabulous prizes on offer - check these ones out!
  • Tracie Eaton Fine Art Reproduction
  • Starfire Diamond Jewellery diamond pendant
  • Mentoring and Corporate Leadership Training Session
  • PR and Brand Positioning Strategy - Smart Solutions PR

At our recent event in Brisbane, "Keeping It Real" we showcased members and how they pivoted and adapted their business in 2020, while keeping a positive outlook for 2021.

The business future is shaping up brightly for Brisbane. On Tuesday 13 April, you can join us for conversations with three prominent business leaders, Alice Barbery, CEO of Universal Store, Dominique Lamb, CEO of National Retail Association and Liz Golding, Fashion Director of Illuminate, to reflect on the impacts of the pandemic on our local economy and discussion around the trends that are expected to shape the city for years to come.

Our networking event will start on the rooftop of the Brisbane Hub, and move down to Level 2 to commence the Panel discussions. There will be lots of warm conversations, business connections and light refreshments.

WNA in partnership with Starfire Diamond Jewellery are delighted to invite you to attend an exclusive night of diamond brilliance and fun with canapes and champagne. There will be a chance for some exclusive offers, to win a lucky door prize or two, plus hear the amazing story of Shweta Khan, founder of Starfire Diamond Jewellery.

Shweta will share her experience in the diamond market and what makes her business shine. With 25 years in the jewellery industry, and a diamond wholesale business, Shweta has the knowledge and deep passion for designing unique pieces that are ultimately distinctive.

This event is FREE for members (yay!) and $29.00 for visitors.

Location: Starfire Diamond Jewellery, 162 Oxford St, Bulimba, Qld, 4171

Date: Wednesday 28 April

Time: 6.00pm-8.00pm AEST

WNA Member Janet Camilleri is a passionate advocate for the healing properties and benefits of reformer pilates! Sometimes after a long day of business meetings, lunches, family commitments and other agenda items, exercise does tend to fall off the radar! I know when I don't schedule time in my daily calendar for some form of movement or exercise, I tend stay on the couch!

What is reformer pilates? As Janet mentions in her latest WNA blog, it is similar to mat-based pilates but is more intense due to the added resistance of the pilates reformer. And there are so many benefits:
  • Improves core strength, balance, flexibility, functional mobility and posture
  • Reduces injuries and back pain
  • Improves cardiovascular health
  • Improves bone density
  • And many more!
You can also read many more of our insightful WNA Blogs here to support you to be your best self in business and life!

If you enjoy an Anthony Hopkins masterpiece, then The Father might be your next movie date! Academy Award winners Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman star in one of this year's most acclaimed films.

Hopkins plays the eponymous role of a mischievous and highly independent man who, as he ages, refuses all assistance from his daughter Anne (Colman). Yet such help has become essential following Anne's decision to move to Paris with her partner. As Anne's father tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.

We are thinking of everyone who has been affected by this rain and flooding events around the country over the last week. Please stay safe and take care of each other.

I suppose when the rain and cooler weather sets in, my soup recipe book tends to get a good workout. Soups are the perfect comfort food on a cold and damp day. The nutritional and health benefits are also fantastic for inspirational businesswomen like yourselves who need the stamina and energy to keep thriving:

  1. They help you meet you daily vegetable quota
  2. They are inexpensive and easy to prepare
  3. They freeze well (yes, leftovers!)
  4. They keep you hydrated and full
  5. They give your immune system a boost (See you later colds and COVID!)

If you want a nutrient-dense, immune boosting chicken and veggie soup, this Ginger Chicken Soup Recipe with Turmeric is a winner! And if you love a flavoursome pumpkin soup, this Thai Pumpkin Soup with Coconut Milk could just be the one for you! Lastly, if you are a Maggie Beer fan, this Tomato and Bread Soup will keep your family happy (Yum!).

This week I know I celebrated an overload of cuteness with all the puppies and dogs around our neighbourhood! Established in 2006, Tuesday 23 March was National Puppy Day which is a great day for all dog enthusiasts to celebrate unconditional love of our puppies that bring so much happiness to our worlds. It's also an important day to raise awareness about puppy mills and help prospective pet owners consider adoption.

Founder Colleen Paige has been on an incredible mission to help bring awareness to the public about the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year. It’s also an excellent opportunity to show off your dog’s supermodel side and give them some extra cuddles for all the joy they bring. As you sit back with your canine best friend and admire your puppy photos on your phone camera, please keep in mind that today might be the best excuse to bring home your own adopted fluffy puppy.

For the 2021 campaign, they are giving away a basket full of gifts to one lucky owner and their puppy! You can enter into the competition by filling out a quick survey.

Do you know someone who would benefit from being part of WNA?

Feel free to forward our Member Benefits link so they can join too!
