Dear Guest,

With many Australians facing an extended lockdown, I wanted to extend my heartfelt thoughts to you and your families. With anxieties and frustrations on the increase, as well as business hardships, increasing social isolation from the people we cherish and facing an incredibly uncertain time, it's more important than ever that you reach out to people who can support you. At times when my mind has raced and the anxious thoughts have overwhelmed me, I have leant on those closest to sustain my energy and motivation.

I know all of our WNA business owners and leaders are working overtime to manage your businesses, employees, home lives while you are home schooling, cooking meals and cleaning too at times - it's important to remember you are doing your best with what you have, where you are! It might be another chore, but I did find it helped me through the reoccurring lockdowns to write down three things I wanted to achieve for the day - it might have been getting out of my pyjamas, ringing two WNA members, and getting my son through his homework - but if still feels good to tick things off the list throughout the day!

I was exceptionally excited about our planned Melbourne event on Thursday 29 July with Binh Rey, but due to the Victoria lockdown, things are looking a little uncertain. For those guests who had registered to attend, please keep an eye on your emails as we will be in touch to let you know how we will proceed. Fingers crossed we can proceed with our two in-person events in Hobart and Brisbane in August - find out more about those events here.

Episode One of our Business Insights Virtual Series was fantastic with Caryn Walsh who brought us tips for being braver, finding our courage and smashing that imposter syndrome. Episode Two will also be a hit! Tune in on Tuesday 10 August from 12.00pm to 1:00pm with Debra Yuille - General Manager of Mediaglue and a specialist in organising Google Advertising Campaigns. Lock it in now!

Finally, read on to win your ultimate business scale-up pack worth $2000, follow along with our WNA bloggers on custom fashion and diversity and inclusion, and apply for your free movie ticket! There is also small business grants available to our Queensland and NSW business owners and creative ideas to sustain you during lockdown.

As always, I am open to your feedback and only ever a phone call away.

Stay safe and well this week and reach out if you need.

Pearls of wisdom from our WNA bloggers

In a world where diversity and inclusion, as well as gender equality are central themes right now, Kelly Van Nelson advocates for a more committed and inclusive workforce for women in her latest blog. Actions do speak louder than words and companies such as Adecco are leading the way with innovative solutions such as providing a "no questions asked" Domestic Violence Leave Policy, as well as providing flexible working arrangements and employment opportunities that support women rising strongly within the leadership ranks and evolving workplaces to ensure everyone succeeds.

I do enjoy a bit of window shopping and tailoring my style with custom dresses and outfits! Fonthip Ward's latest article reminded me of the few times I have seen ladies arrive in the same outfit to an event! It can be a cringe-worthy moment but it's exciting to hear that custom clothing and the advances of technology in fashion are creating new opportunities for women everywhere - high-quality, flattering cuts and styles, that fit well, last for a long time and save us time and energy in the shopping centre are the future of fashion!

Free movie tickets!

Emmanuelle Devos and Gregory Montel shine in this sweet French drama, PERFUMES, described by VARIETY as “a feel-good tale of friendship with a fragrant and very French backdrop”.

Anne Walberg (Emmanuelle Devos) was once the star of her industry – a perfumer whose ability to produce enticing new fragrances was second to none and which saw her rise through a competitive landscape. She remains in demand, but her intemperate behaviour has made her difficult. However, striking up an unlikely friendship with her equally troubled new driver (Gregory Montel), Anne sees a way to return to the top, which might offer a solution to both their problems. You can watch the trailer here.

If you are keen for a fun night out, I have some free tickets available for WNA members - jump in quick to secure your free ticket today courtesy of Arcadia.

Small business grants for Queensland and NSW businesses

If you are working hard and need that extra financial boost, the Business Boost Grants Program could be the next step for you! The program provides support to Queensland businesses to advance improvements in their efficiency and productivity in three main areas:
  • Future planning
  • Specialised and automated software
  • Staff management, development and planning.
The program opens on 30 July 2021 and will remain open until funds are exhausted. You may be eligible for a grant payment of $15,000 (excluding GST) on completing your proposed project. An important point to note for businesses is the requirement for you to co-contribute at least 30% of the total project costs.

There are also grants available to support NSW businesses affected by the COVID Lockdown. You can apply online for the 2021 COVID-19 Business Grant which provides support for businesses that have experienced reduced demand or had to close due to the public health orders.

Creative inspiration to keep you going during lockdown

Last time we shared a few ideas with you for staying healthy and active during our enforced home stays. This week I have gone searching again to find out how others are staying productive, happy and at their creative best during these times. Netflix and live TV will always keep us company and we are fortunate to have our amazing Australian Olympic athletes gracing our screens currently during #Tokyo2020. The latest edition to the global cricket schedule, 'The Hundred', also started today for those that enjoy some binge watching on Kayo in the early hours of the morning. Below are a few ideas I thought would help you stay busy and active:
  • Learn a new language like Spanish with Youtube or Memrise.
  • Listen to some inspiring guests on the Sandro Forte Podcast or find out about pop culture and politics on Mamamia Out Loud.
  • Clean up your wardrobe and declutter by passing items to family and friends or donating to charity.
  • Try your hand at creating your own cocktail - yes please I will have an Espresso Martini!
  • Complete your own manicure with the creativity of gems, glitter and colours!
  • If you are feeling productive, give your professional documents an uplift - update your CV, LinkedIn profile and cover letters to help with your next career move.
  • This one is not my favourite but probably needs to be done - clean out your pantry! (Found any 1999 herbs and spices anyone?!)
  • Write in your journal or find time each day to write down a couple of positive affirmations - then you have got them to remind you in those moments you need them most!
