Dear Guest, Last Friday was a wonderful day! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our inaugural Charity High Tea in Brisbane. The view from the Stamford Plaza was exquisite, the company and conversation was superb, and those sweet high tea treats kept me going all day. The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO and Lady Mayoress of Brisbane Nina Schrinner kept us in stitches with their wisdom and passion for advocacy and change, and I was blown away by the rendition of Amazing Grace by Lisa Lockland-Bell. I don't know if my singing or humming was any good but my heart certainly felt every note of her beautiful voice! Thanks also to Leigh Muirhead who led the inspiring couch conversations and kept us motivated and enlightened with her funny and light-hearted quotes. Our event was attended by many of Queensland's impressive businesswomen and men and many devoted women who travelled from interstate to support and experience the occasion. At the end of the day, I was proud that we were able to bring everyone together in such an uplifting room. It was particularly satisfying to raise over $7000 for Women's Legal Service Queensland who do important work for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. Equally important, as CEO Angela Lynch AM stated on the day, is keeping the conversation front and centre, as women and children facing awful circumstances associated with domestic violence and assault need our help more than ever. We are continuing to monitor Queensland Health and Australian Government advice about the latest COVID circumstances and will liaise with all of our venues regarding our upcoming April events. Your health and safety is our first priority, which is why at this time we have decided to postpone our event at the Brisbane Hub on 13 April. A new date will be communicated in the next couple of weeks. Fortunately though we can all still meet virtually after Easter with Socialise at Sunset on Friday 9 April. Please reserve your spot further on! Also below you will find details of a great member offer if you are keen to pursue business in the Middle East!
I have Easter chocolate eggs galore at home! How about you?! Easter is a good time to reflect on how your business is going, how your kids have gone in Term 1, and just generally - share your thoughts and ideas in our WNA Facebook Group! This time spent with friends and family should be treasured. Remember, connection and communication are key in business and among those closest and dearest to you. Given that it is a long weekend, I have added a few delicious recipes that may satisfy your Easter cravings. You can also read about a new and progressive law that New Zealand has passed, about Virgin Galactic's new vehicle, and there's a webinar to help you apply for the Boosting Female Founders Grant! I hope all of you stay safe over the Easter Break, enjoy a creme egg or three, a hot cross bun or two, and take time out to rest and rejuvenate.
Thank you as always for your support of WNA and please reach out if I can assist with anything.

A BEAUTIFUL DIAMOND PENDANT AND BEAUTIFUL PERSON! Thank you to everyone who selflessly donated to our raffle prize draw to support the vital and continuing work of Women's Legal Service Queensland. There were many fabulous prizes on offer that went to many deserving women in the room and none more so than Sue Clarke. It was fitting that Sue won one of the major prizes, an exquisite diamond pendant from Starfire Diamond Jewellery.
Sue and her family have set up Small Steps 4 Hannah in honour of Hannah, Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey Clarke to help ensure that no family should endure their pain. Small Steps 4 Hannah is a movement for change to put a HALT to the incidences and severity of domestic and family violence in Australia. Through various projects, fundraising, partnerships and events, Small Steps 4 Hannah aims to: - Educate the community about domestic and family violence
- Advocate for legal and social change
- Fund projects to deliver awareness and education
- Support those in the community living with domestic violence.

NZ LEADING THE WAY - MISCARRIAGE LEAVE FOR PARENTS
I know you have all been busy with the Charity High Tea, your own businesses and staying healthy and safe during these interesting times, but an especially important story broke this week which is relevant to many in our workplaces and communities.
Well done to Jacinda Ardern and the New Zealand Government who have passed a miscarriage bereavement leave law to give would-be parents time to grieve. New Zealand is only the second country to do so behind India. The bereavement allowance gives employees three days leave when a pregnancy ends with a stillbirth, without having to tap into sick leave.
The leave provisions apply to mothers and their partners, as well as parents planning to have a child through adoption or surrogacy. Read here for more information on New Zealand's pioneering law. | |
