Dear Guest,

Last Friday was a wonderful day! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our inaugural Charity High Tea in Brisbane. The view from the Stamford Plaza was exquisite, the company and conversation was superb, and those sweet high tea treats kept me going all day. The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO and Lady Mayoress of Brisbane Nina Schrinner kept us in stitches with their wisdom and passion for advocacy and change, and I was blown away by the rendition of Amazing Grace by Lisa Lockland-Bell. I don't know if my singing or humming was any good but my heart certainly felt every note of her beautiful voice!

Thanks also to Leigh Muirhead who led the inspiring couch conversations and kept us motivated and enlightened with her funny and light-hearted quotes. Our event was attended by many of Queensland's impressive businesswomen and men and many devoted women who travelled from interstate to support and experience the occasion.

At the end of the day, I was proud that we were able to bring everyone together in such an uplifting room. It was particularly satisfying to raise over $7000 for Women's Legal Service Queensland who do important work for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. Equally important, as CEO Angela Lynch AM stated on the day, is keeping the conversation front and centre, as women and children facing awful circumstances associated with domestic violence and assault need our help more than ever.

We are continuing to monitor Queensland Health and Australian Government advice about the latest COVID circumstances and will liaise with all of our venues regarding our upcoming April events. Your health and safety is our first priority, which is why at this time we have decided to postpone our event at the Brisbane Hub on 13 April. A new date will be communicated in the next couple of weeks. Fortunately though we can all still meet virtually after Easter with Socialise at Sunset on Friday 9 April. Please reserve your spot further on! Also below you will find details of a great member offer if you are keen to pursue business in the Middle East!

I have Easter chocolate eggs galore at home! How about you?! Easter is a good time to reflect on how your business is going, how your kids have gone in Term 1, and just generally - share your thoughts and ideas in our WNA Facebook Group! This time spent with friends and family should be treasured. Remember, connection and communication are key in business and among those closest and dearest to you.

Given that it is a long weekend, I have added a few delicious recipes that may satisfy your Easter cravings. You can also read about a new and progressive law that New Zealand has passed, about Virgin Galactic's new vehicle, and there's a webinar to help you apply for the Boosting Female Founders Grant!
I hope all of you stay safe over the Easter Break, enjoy a creme egg or three, a hot cross bun or two, and take time out to rest and rejuvenate.

Thank you as always for your support of WNA and please reach out if I can assist with anything.

Janelle ♥

Thank you to everyone who selflessly donated to our raffle prize draw to support the vital and continuing work of Women's Legal Service Queensland. There were many fabulous prizes on offer that went to many deserving women in the room and none more so than Sue Clarke. It was fitting that Sue won one of the major prizes, an exquisite diamond pendant from Starfire Diamond Jewellery.

Sue and her family have set up Small Steps 4 Hannah in honour of Hannah, Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey Clarke to help ensure that no family should endure their pain. Small Steps 4 Hannah is a movement for change to put a HALT to the incidences and severity of domestic and family violence in Australia. Through various projects, fundraising, partnerships and events, Small Steps 4 Hannah aims to:
  • Educate the community about domestic and family violence
  • Advocate for legal and social change
  • Fund projects to deliver awareness and education
  • Support those in the community living with domestic violence.
If you would like to learn more about how you can help, please follow on socials and donate here.

I also wanted to say a huge 'thank you' to all of our generous supporters. WNA could not have put on an event of this calibre without your wonderful support.

Whether you gave up your time, donated a raffle prize or a service on the day, I thank you! What a wonderful group of members we have in our WNA network! You can check the full list below.

Friday 9 April is our next national virtual catchup and I would love to see you there!

Every month we celebrate connection, conversation, collaboration and encouragement through our Socialise at Sunset platform. Come along with your business ideas, solutions and problem solvers, and share how you enjoyed your Easter break. It is an empowering and motivating way to start your weekend!

Socialise at Sunset is proudly a FREE event for WNA members and a great way to finish off your business week and embrace the weekend.

Get your free ticket and connect with us nationally at 4.30pm AEST on Friday 9 April.

WNA members seeking to grow business opportunities in the Middle East and Gulf Arab market should take note of this special offer from Australia's leading Arabic translation and cross-cultural advisory service.

Mariam Elliott, Managing Director of Middle East Connect & Cultural Advisors, keenly supported the WNA Charity High Tea for Women's Legal Service Queensland last week, and is rewarding our members by offering a 10% discount on projects (valued less than $10,000).

This offer would benefit any Australian business interested in entering the Middle East or Gulf Arab markets. It includes one hour of cultural awareness advice. For further information, contact Mariam via email.

A couple of weeks ago we advertised the Boosting Female Founders Grant! Are you a woman-identifying Australian founder who has questions about how to apply? We have a good opportunity for you!

You can join three SheEO venture founders Lucinda Hartley (Neighbourlytics), Christina Hobbs (Verve), and Mikaela Jade (Indigital) who were recipients of the Boosting Female Founders (BFF) grant last year and ask them anything about their process. All three women are keen to share their knowledge and what they learned in the process!

Tuesday 6 April
12.00pm-1.00pm AEST ZOOM

Virgin boss Richard Branson has always been an entrepreneur with big dreams and big goals. This week Virgin Galactic released the first ever VSS Imagine SpaceShip. They are built specifically to deliver a new, transforming perspective to the thousands of people who will soon be able to experience the wonder of space for themselves. Branson says the SpaceShip 111 is not just a beautiful vehicle to look at, but represents Virgin Galactic's growing fleet of spaceships. Check it out here! Wild!

I know you have all been busy with the Charity High Tea, your own businesses and staying healthy and safe during these interesting times, but an especially important story broke this week which is relevant to many in our workplaces and communities.

Well done to Jacinda Ardern and the New Zealand Government who have passed a miscarriage bereavement leave law to give would-be parents time to grieve. New Zealand is only the second country to do so behind India. The bereavement allowance gives employees three days leave when a pregnancy ends with a stillbirth, without having to tap into sick leave.

The leave provisions apply to mothers and their partners, as well as parents planning to have a child through adoption or surrogacy. Read here for more information on New Zealand's pioneering law.

We all might have a bit of time on our hands over Easter, so I thought I would share a few recipes that you might like to try or spend time cooking with your loved ones. I do love a good hot cross bun and a good Taste recipe or three!

5-ingredient rocky road fudge

Easter bunny biscuits

Cheesy garlic hot cross buns

And if you are after a bit less chocolate and a bit more salad, here's a few too!

Easter barramundi and pumpkin salad

15-minute chicken and corn noodle soup

Do you know someone who would benefit from being part of WNA?
