Dear Guest,

Winter is coming.

No, it’s not time to binge Season 1 of Game of Thrones – although, that could be a weekend option for some.

The phrase “Winter is Coming” denotes a time in the future that will bring tests and trials.

It is an expression that means always be prepared; a reminder to be vigilant, just in case. Even in good times, plan for tougher times ahead.

In business, the less inspiring but equally important moniker is Business Continuity Planning. A business continuity plan will help you to identify and prevent, or reduce risks where possible. It documents the steps you need to take to keep your business running and cash flow coming in.

Okay, so it's not as exciting as the mythical continent of Westeros and watching nine families of higher nobility scramble bitterly to gain power over the seven kingdoms and the Iron throne (yes, that’s the synopsis for Game of Thrones…). But planning for hard times ahead – even if they don’t eventuate for your business – can help you sleep better at night. Surely that’s a noble cause!

In just over two weeks, we will hit the official start of Winter in Australia. You can already feel it creeping in. Cooler (or cold!) days and less daylight can impact our mood and evoke some prehistoric desire to hibernate!
