| | Dear Guest,
I have been reflecting a lot in recent weeks on Australians who are leading with integrity and humility through these challenging times. I have been a regular and keen follower of Turia Pitt, a great Australian role model in her own right, and her latest creation - her podcast, Turia Pitt is Hard Work, has been a constant companion on my weekly walks. She brings enlightenment from courageous people such as Rabia Siddique who has campaigned for justice numerous times in her role as a criminal and humans rights lawyer and legal aid in the British Army, and also Nikki Webster, who had to grow up quickly in the public eye after her musical role at the Sydney Olympics propelled her into the often unrelenting media spotlight. If you need some motivation and drive to keep going, this could be a podcast for you.
The courage and humility of these guests leads me to another group of courageous and fantastic leaders and role models within our own WNA community through the Humble Leaders book. Our two book launches in Brisbane City two weeks ago were uplifting and encouraging just like the 12 stories in the book. If you weren't able to tune in for the launch, a number of these quiet achievers presented their stories and career journeys and it was wonderful to see the book collaboration in its entirety. If you would like to purchase the Humble Leaders book, please check out this link today!
As we begin October, it's an important time for many reasons, but in particular for women as it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Over the past 23 years, the Australian Women's Health Diary has raised more than $17 million for breast cancer trials and research to save and improve the lives of people with breast cancer. If you need a new business or personal diary for next year, I encourage you to purchase the 2022 edition which is incredibly affordable at $18.95 per diary and supports the incredible work of the medical professionals trying to eradicate this awful disease.
I want to thank you all for continuing to support each other both in person and virtually as we continue to traverse the next days, weeks and months together. Our events are an important part of this journey and it's pleasing that we are still able to proceed with a number of smaller events interstate, locally and virtually as well as meticulously prepare for our feature event - the WNA Christmas Charity Luncheon. You can read on about a number of events WNA is hosting in October.
Please continue to contribute your thoughts and expertise to our WNA blog - it is refreshing to learn and update our knowledge from the very best experts in their fields - the more recent ones on starting your business, understanding the details of COVID grants and tax implications, and embracing women's beauty and body through fashion have been hugely insightful. Keep them coming!
Finally, as we strive onwards into the warmer months, there is plenty to look forward to. You can read on for some important milestones this month - including Mental Health Week, National Carers Week and National Nutrition Week where we are all encouraged to eat more veggies, look after our mindsets, and help those most vulnerable around us! And I have found another book of a truly powerful yet humble American business leader!
As always, I am open to your feedback and only ever a phone call away.
Stay safe and well this week and reach out if you need.

She has combined that with an elite soccer career in Tasmania. She is a woman of many talents having recently been selected as a participant in the Australian Olympic Changemaker Summit as part of the Youth Committee 2019 to bring the Olympics to Australia in 2032.

Looking After Yourselves and Others You Care About!
As we continue on into the spring months, it's been refreshing to get outside in nature and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful flowers. I have made a real effort personally to embrace self care and wellbeing each day with small joys and wins that keep the days light and free. I have embraced the odd crossword, walks around the neighbourhood, spending time with my family, and reading the odd book or two! It got me thinking about the themes of health, wellbeing, positive mindset and nutrition. October addresses these themes in detail and I have included information on many of these topics which you may be interested in below:
- Highlights the important connection between social determinants and mental health
- Promotes effective prevention strategies to keep people mentally healthy
- Check out your own state and territory websites for specific events in your area
- Embrace Try for 5 is a campaign to raise awareness for all Australians to increase their vegetable consumption to the recommended 5 servings per day
- If you need some inspiration for your weekly dinners, why not try out a few of their recipes led by the delightful sweet potato nachos or one that the kids might enjoy - rainbow veggie slice.
- It's a great time to recognise and celebrate the 2.65 million Australians who provide care and support to a family member or friend
- This year's theme is "Millions of Reasons to Care" which raises awareness of the incredible contribution that unpaid carers make to our nation
- The perfect opportunity to support WNA member Ronnie Benbow, Founder of Carers Foundation Australia and the incredible work she does providing wellness retreats to carers.
Wisdom and insights from the former CEO of Pepsico
If you enjoy a good biography or autobiography to keep you company on the weekend or during the final part of the school holidays, then I have found a good one for you. My Life in Full is the powerful memoir of one of the world's most admired CEO's and business executives - Indra Nooyi. Indra was an exceptional former Chairperson and CEO of Pepsico, has served on the boards of Amazon and the International Cricket Council, and has consistently ranked highly on the Forbes list of the World's 100 Most Powerful Women. Her story is full of determination, sacrifice, leadership and balancing the perspectives of career, family life, and contribution.
The book was published on 28 September 2021 and is available in hardback and online!
