| | | Dear Guest,How could we forget the stunning 2015 Melbourne Cup performance of the first female winning jockey Michelle Payne. This week I was reading an article about Michelle and how she prepared for her weekly professional horse races. It reflected strongly on me just how treacherous yet dedicated the life of a professional jockey is, let alone the fact they can't eat much food, need to rise before the birds are up, and acquaint themselves often with a very hot sauna to stay under weight for race day. But it was a very simple verse that one of the race stewards told Michelle early in her professional career as she moved into her barrier prior to a race that stayed with her forever:
"Just breathe in...........it'll all be ok." (So simple yet so profound).
That statement resonated with me personally and I am sure it resonates with all of you as we continue to progress through uncertainty and adversity, but with hope, optimism and commitment to a great future. I think it's a great cue particularly with World Mental Health Day coming up on Saturday 10 October. Remember, if your heart rate is racing or you just need to sit and be for five minutes to relax, find that calm space and take some time for you.
At WNA, we are all about hope and using passion to provide great events and opportunities to connect and collaborate. Socialise at Sunset has become one of my favourite virtual events to share with you how my week went but also learn how you all progressed in your business - please join us for our next one on Friday 16 October.
And I might sound like a broken record but read on for more info on our treasured WNA Christmas Charity Luncheon and Hobart-based and inspired entrepreneurs event. I thank you for your continued support as we get our physical events back in business! In line with World Teachers Day, this week we wanted to acknowledge the great work that all teachers do to foster and support an attitude of continual learning for everyone. I also highlight the important topic of tax audits which Bronwyn Condon has beautifully summarised in her new WNA blog.
And for a little something else, you can read about how the Australian Government is working hard to support small business and regional business recovery through more digital solutions and they require experienced and passionate presenters like many of you to roll out their latest initiative.
It was also Improve Your Office Day this week and there are some fantastic tips on how you can make your work spaces more inviting, clear and productive for yourselves and your employees. I know I should probably address a bit of my own clutter :)
Lastly, there is a new podcast recommendation if you enjoy keeping up with the news!
As always, I am here to help, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

After a year like no other, we thought we should highlight the efforts teachers have made to keep our schools and kids rolling along! During this crisis, a calm and collected attitude has been required along with great leadership and innovation to adapt and support the roll-out of home-schooling and new ways of teaching.
This year World Teacher's Day (October 5) celebrated the theme of "Leading in a Crisis - Reimagining the Future". We celebrate and thank the teaching profession worldwide, note their achievements, and pay attention to the voices of teachers who are at the heart of the global education goal of leaving no one behind.
If you know someone in the WNA network who ensures #learningneverstops, give them a pat on the back or a friendly call or text to show your appreciation! Teachers are heroes on many a day!
TAX OFFICE AUDITS ARE A NECESSITY OF BUSINESS AND ARE ON THE RISE!
WNA member Bronwyn Condon knows a thing or two about audits and she wants you to stress less and be prepared. Most audits generally go very smoothly and are resolved in a reasonable time frame, however if you haven't been through one before, being prepared and educated is a good start.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is investing heavily into audit areas such as JobKeeper, Cashflow Boost and the early access to superannuation rules. The ATO is using data matching tools to identify at risk cases around these topics and is then making contact to start a formal audit.
If you need to talk to someone, the best place to start is likely your accountant. They will be able to assess your business complexity and identify areas of concern. Depending on the complexity a lawyer may be required further down the track.
How long an audit may take depends on the specificity or general nature of the audit. Specific audits tend to finish up quickly if the information is presented in a timely fashion. Sometimes general audits can take much longer depending on complexity. In terms of costs involved, specific audits tend to be cheaper and as more parties such as lawyers or valuers get involved, the costs can escalate.
If you would like to learn more, check out Bronwyn's WNA blog which is a fantastic resource on this subject. | | | THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT IS SEEKING ADVISORS WITH PRESENTING SKILLS!

HAVE YOU TAKEN THE TIME TO SPRING CLEAN YOUR OFFICE LATELY?
Yes there is such a thing - Improve Your Office Day! You might have a chuckle but when we have a clear space to work in, screens set up ergonomically, good lighting, good music, and of course a great deal of motivation, it's not surprising we are more productive and efficient at our work. Not only does clutter make your work space look and feel messy, but it can also clutter your mind and ability to create and produce good work!
Why not try some of these easy tips to improve your work space below: - Make sure you have a flexible mix of different types of artificial lighting
- Check to make sure you have optimal temperature available (about 21.5 degrees)
- Adjust your monitor so when you are looking directly forward it's at eye level
- Ensure you have an appropriate balance of colours to shape mood and motivation
- Take away workplace noise distractions with sound insulation
- Set up a few potted plants to add colour and interest (yellow is good!)
- If you love that coffee or tea buzz, set up a little spot in another room so you have that rest break.
