| | | Dear Guest,
It's a new week and I am buoyed by the energy and connection from our network. Last week's Socialise at Sunset reminded me of the balancing act it is to be a business owner, community advocate, mother, sister, daughter, aunty and many other titles that we hold to ourselves. As Carrie Swan alludes in her latest article, achieving the trifecta of ambition, livelihood and wellbeing is a tricky premise and many of us are still searching for the right ingredients.
She notes that women-owned businesses have been the hardest hit in the pandemic because many are also in the newer stage of entrepreneurship and of smaller size. External changes do hit our businesses hard at times and it can be the choice between taking a holiday or rest period that we desperately need or persevering with a business idea that may not yield anything in return. I like her tips for all of us as ambitious, business-minded women who seek to balance their family and personal wellbeing in 2021: - Assert ambition but allow it to take time - take the big picture view and be positive and kind to yourself.
- Recognise that livelihood is a transferable skill - ask for help if you need it and be clear with what you need.
- Practice wellbeing as a mindset for every minute of each day - start practising it!
What better way to support your ambition, wellbeing and livelihood by attending one of our fabulous brunches or lunches, including our upcoming Brisbane and Hobart events. Attending our WNA events is an important part of your business success and expanding your networks and friendships. Open your diary or your calendar and book one in for February!
If you are in Victoria and a fan of stand-up comedy, we have a free opportunity for you to attend the Comedy Festival Warm Up Showcase event. If you are in need of a night of big laughs and a nice dinner, please email laughs@thecomicslounge.com.au for your tickets to one of four shows in late January. More details in the event section of this email!
It was great to reconnect last week with members from around Australia to hear how your Christmas holiday adventures ensued and to discuss your goals and plans for 2021. Socialise at Sunset is a great way to connect virtually and surround yourself with positive people - you can sit on your couch in your casuals if you like or put your runners on and walk in the fresh air around the block while zooming in.
This week we featured five of our exceptional WNA leadership team members on our socials. With 2021 just kicking off, our WNA leadership team are excited to engage with WNA members in their region and help you make the most of your WNA membership. I have introduced these five lovely ladies a bit further on!
As an avid book reader when I can, I have shared some thoughts on one of my latest favourites - Colin D Ellis' latest book Culture Hacks. It's full of fantastic ideas to transform your work. And I know many of you are aspiring authors, so I thought Sigrid De Kaste's latest WNA blog is a succinct yet fantastic insight into how to go about choosing a publisher. All of our WNA Blogs are brilliant so read a few over your coffee! Additionally, I've shared two podcasts which might assist you with your financial and investment knowledge and ambitions and also managing your health and wellbeing.
As the team at Women's Agenda always encourage - stay safe and savvy and reach out to me at any time if you need anything.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

It was lovely to have a number of WNA members join us for Socialise at Sunset last week. With members joining in from around the country, it was interesting to hear about the impacts of different restrictions, what everyone had been up to over the Christmas/New Year break and what their priorities were for the year ahead. In particular - The importance of choosing your business name wisely
- Getting a trademark to reduce issues down the track
- Visiting WNA Member Cally Lyons at Rathmore House (Tasmania) once we can get there and know we can safely get back
- Making sure we set aside time for ourselves and approach the year with a clear mind.
Stay tuned for the next one in February!

Next week, we will be sharing five more WNA leadership team members from around the country! Keep your eyes peeled! | | TRANSFORMING YOUR CULTURE AND THE WAY YOU WORK !
Culture is the biggest topic in the world right now - and the number one determinant of business success - yet it's often put in the 'too hard to change' basket. In this new book, workplace culture specialist Colin D Ellis provides a practical culture toolkit of 26 tried and tested ideas that you can put into practice right now to build a fantastic culture, regardless of where people are based. | | | WRITING AND PUBLISHING A BOOK IN 2021 - IMPORTANT TIPS!
WNA Member Sigrid De Kaste has some great tips in her latest WNA blog on knowing how to plan and publish your book. Sigrid watched on as a frustrated and distressed client lost her money, precious time, and most importantly trust with what wasn't a water-tight secure publishing contract. Her client had put her book up for pre-order sales because the agent had told her the books were just a couple of weeks away.....and they never turned up! | | REIGNITING YOUR PODCAST LOVE!
I do love a good podcast or two, but over the holidays I got into my good old-fashioned movie file once again! It was on a commute home this week that I found a couple of newbies that may be of interest to you too:
She's on the Money - Victoria Devine (40-60 minute episodes)
Millenial money expert Victoria Devine shares her foolproof tips for financial freedom. She discusses topics such as investment, how to overcome financial perfectionism, and what is a Buy Now Pay Later scheme.
Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris (8-70 minute episodes)
Dan Harris is a fidgety, skeptical ABC News anchor who had a panic attack live on Good Morning America which led him to try something he always thought was ridiculous: meditation. Dan explores happiness (whatever that means) from all angles. Guests include the Dalai Lama, Western Masters, as well as scientists and the odd celebrity. The show ventures beyond meditation, into areas such as social anxiety, bias, creativity, productivity and relationships.
WNA MOVIE CLUB
Penguin Bloom tells the true story of Sam Bloom (Academy Award® nominated Naomi Watts) a young mother whose world is turned upside down after a near-fatal accident leaves her unable to walk. Sam's husband, (Andrew Lincoln), her three young boys and her mother (Academy Award® nominated Jacki Weaver), are struggling to adjust to their new situation when an unlikely ally enters their world in the form of an injured baby magpie they name Penguin. The bird's arrival is a welcome distraction for the Bloom family, eventually making a profound difference in the family's life. Penguin Bloom came out in cinemas yesterday (21 January 2021).
WNA has complimentary passes available for those who express interest via email.
Tickets are courtesy of Roadshow. | | | | Do you know someone who would benefit from being part of WNA? Feel free to forward our Member Benefits link so they can join too! | | |
