Dear Guest,

It was brilliant news this week to hear the appointment of Australian businesswoman and President of Australian Women's Rugby Josephine Sukkar to the role of Chair - Australian Sports Commission. As the first woman to hold the role - over the next three years, Josephine will be overseeing Sport Australia and furthering its goals to increase participation in sports at all levels in Australia. Sporting bodies are facing a huge challenge as a result of the pandemic but her experience and passion will be invaluable as sports move forward into a COVID-safe world. A great leadership appointment for sport!

I am also a big believer in building strong teams and Marie Kemby's article on building trust with your staff was quite a timely read for me. I really resonated with her idea that building trust helps to ensure our workforces turn up to work as their best selves every time. Her tips for building a loyal and trusting workforce are common sense but worthy of reflecting on below:
  • Back your team, commitments and promises - set strong standards and always be available
  • There is power in authenticity, truth and respect - bring your whole self each time and be genuine to who you are
  • Be transparent, confront issues or concerns, be honest - transparency increases your staff happiness and relationships with your customers, share the good and bad results and be accountable for them
  • Deliver results - assign individual tasks, always strive for improvements and encourage and motivate your people.
It's only two weeks until our much anticipated first live event in 2021 in Brisbane. I am very excited to be back on the ground with you all and making the most of real networking. We also have the wonderful Gail Eaton-Briggs in Hobart to engage and empower our Hobart members and I know you will enjoy her presentation. Both events are COVID-safe, will encompass fine food, beverages and company so please reserve your seat today! Our Charity High Tea will be full of conversations from some highly respected and distinguished guests so read on to find out more and book your seat!

I also know there are many great public speakers amongst you and we are keen to hear from you if you would like to present at one of our WNA events throughout the year. Is 2021 the year you step out of your comfort zone?

Last week we featured the final group of our WNA leadership team members on our socials and continuing the theme of exceptional women this week you can read more about how Carole Cooper is changing the HR landscape for the better!

Our list of WNA blogs keeps growing - thank you! This week there have been ideas on how to avoid domain name scams, keys to a successful business mindset, helping your daughter with confidence, and many more!

And for something else to help support a great cause, if you enjoy swimming in the pool or the ocean, Ian Thorpe has a great cause you can devote your wellbeing time to and support youth mental health through Laps for Life.

Finally, I love kindness stories so please share some love and kindness amongst our membership throughout February. Sometimes it's a hug, a bunch of flowers for someone, or making the time for that friendship phone call, but it can really make somebody's day.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Janelle ♥

EMBRACING OUR TRUE SELVES AND BECOMING UNSTOPPABLE!

Finding Me, Myself and I, is a journey all women need to go on if they want to be the best version of themselves without fake masks and pretence. Yogita Ridgley's story and this book will move you at the deepest level. This is about a woman trapped between two cultures. She feels lost, unappreciated, unheard and unloved. She is hiding all her insecurities behind walls she built to protect herself from the world. She fears she is not good enough. She will not fit in. She will not be accepted. So, she pretends to be someone she is not. She is depressed and quietly dying inside. All she wants to do is be her true self. Her authentic self.

This book will take you through a journey of self-discovery, self acceptance, and self love. Learn to be your true self by embracing all your strengths and weaknesses. Learning to have self belief and self worth empowers us.

Life is a gift, full of lessons and blessings, once we learn how to keep growing from our challenges we become unstoppable.

IAN THORPE CHALLENGES AUSSIES TO SWIM IN SUPPORT OF YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH

Ian Thorpe AM, Patron and Board Member of Australia's most accessed online mental health service for young people, ReachOut, is calling on people across Australia to jump in the water in March for Laps for Life - a month-long swimming challenge.

Laps for Life raises funds and awareness for young people in Australia living with mental health difficulties and to help prevent youth suicide. This is a particularly significant cause this year with young people's mental health being heavily impacted by COVID-19 restrictions.

Laps for Life is open to everyone across Australia and is simple to take part in. People can get involved by visiting Laps For Life to register a personal swimming challenge and fundraise for youth mental health. Participants set their own lap or distance goal and then dive on in. Whether they're swimming in a pool or getting out in the ocean, they log their laps to record their progress.

GOLF2CURE NEUROBLASTOMA

Give back in 2021 by playing golf at a charity event. Neuroblastoma Australia, a small charity based in Crow’s Nest, started by WNA Member Lucy Jones who tragically lost her 2 year old daughter to neuroblastoma cancer, is organising its second charity golf day. The event is taking place at the well-known and well-rated links course at St. Michael’s Golf Club, Little Bay. It was just listed as the 23rd best golf course in Australia by Australia Golf Magazine. Tickets are $500 for 2 people or $1000 for 4 and include breakfast roll, 18 holes with a cart, sit down lunch and live auction. The event MC is Lochie Daddo (how awesome is that?!). Funds raised go towards research into the devastating childhood cancer neuroblastoma. For more information and to book your tickets please click here.

WNA MOVIE CLUB - CLICK HERE TO RESERVE A COMPLIMENTARY DOUBLE PASS!

The Food Club is the story of three long-time girlfriends from elementary school, very different women, with one thing in common: they are all in the fall of their lives and they all feel how ruthless old age can be. Marie is abandoned by her husband on Christmas Eve, and as a consequence, her identity as part of a happy family crumbles. Berling is the eternal "bachelor" who outwardly denies her age and lives the sweet life, but in the backdrop she is affected by a complicated relationship with her daughter. Vanja, on the other hand, lives in the memories of her late husband and has difficulty moving on.

The three women travel to Italy together to attend a food course in Puglia, and here they each have an opportunity to redefine themselves. But only when they are able to face reality, will they be able to change. They acknowledge that the most important thing is friendship and that it is never too late to create a new and better future. And by supporting each other, it turns out to be a life that has much more to offer than they ever dreamed of.

In cinemas now! Tickets provided to WNA members courtesy of The Reset Collective.
