Dear Guest,

When was the last time you tried a new skill? I know I get in my set routines and my comfort zone, whether that's in my business or in my personal time. Trying something new demands humility and honesty with ourselves and as a novice in a new venture or skill, sometimes you just have to fight your way through the brick wall that is in front of you. As Zoe Routh alludes to in her book, People Stuff - Beyond Personality Problems, sometimes by fighting through we can discover new abilities and opportunities, and even new communities or friendships.

With three weeks to go until our WNA QLD Christmas Charity Luncheon (Thursday 26 November) I am thrilled to announce that our Gold Event Sponsor is AIS Water! Their endorsement of our event is uplifting and means we can deliver a wonderful reception for all attendees! If you are one of those people that does last minute bookings, you still have time! We have a fashion parade to ponder, the captivating Lady Mayoress Nina Schrinner attending, lots of champagne, and of course a chance to celebrate all of our achievements and challenges that we have embraced across this fanatical year.

Socialise at Sunset is locked in for Friday 13 November so please join us for an hour of connection and conversation. I also enjoy supporting other Conferences and events that are designed to help us all as women business owners and entrepreneurs, so read on to find out more about the WomenFuture Conference 2020

In the Membership section of this communique I have FREE movie passes to give away, and if you're keen to care for the environment, National Recycling Week is a great reminder on how to recycle in the workplace and beyond.

And for a little something else, I've got more to keep you busy! Find out about Cyber Security Scholarships for aspiring women, listen to some fantastic Lady Start Up Stories, and maybe even try a random act of kindness or two!

Lastly, it's important to acknowledge Remembrance Day (Wednesday 11 November). Take some time to contemplate the huge sacrifices many Australian women and men bravely made for our future.

As always, I am here to help, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

LADY STARTUP STORIES!

Lady Startup Stories is a podcast full of candid chats with women who've started their own businesses to tease out their entrepreneurial tips and tricks. I have attached a couple of the more recent episodes below for a bit of inspiration:

What happens when Megan Markle wears your jeans - Erica Bartle (Outland Denim) (30 mins)
The accidental CEO who founded her own rideshare company - Georgina McEncroe (Shebah) (32 mins)
Sally Hepworth wrote a book that wasn't good enough - Sally Hepworth (Author) (36 mins)

KINDNESS AT WORK!

I love hearing stories of random acts of kindness, particularly within our WNA network. I try to do a few myself to give back from time to time and I know it gives me a real lift. Random Acts of Kindness Foundation have created a wonderful calendar of ideas that anyone can do to create a workplace built on thankfulness, integrity and resilience. November's theme is 'gratitude' and they have provided some great ideas that we can all incorporate to encourage others in our workplaces and create that fantastic culture that we are all striving for.

Workplace kindness ideas:
  • Follow through on something you promised someone
  • Tell at least three people why you are grateful for them
  • Exhibit patience - even if you are in a hurry
  • Share a smile with a stranger at the coffee shop today or on your lunchbreak
  • Find out something new about a co-worker.

REMEMBRANCE DAY - LEST WE FORGET

Next Wednesday marks one of the most important days on the calendar for Australians. Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914-1918). Each year on the 11th of November, Australians observe one minute's silence at 11am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts and appreciation of their sacrifice. For more than 100 years, Australian women and men have served this nation in war, peacekeeping and other humanitarian campaigns.

The Australian War Memorial (AWM) has created a wonderful collection of digitised film and archival footage for you to explore, as well as video content about key moments in our history and objects in their collection. I have included a couple below for your perusal that captures the extraordinary service and sacrifice so many have bravely made.

The AWM have also created a Museum at Home for those who can't travel due to the pandemic and other reasons - you can learn about our history through podcasts, online exhibitions, blogs and other research articles.

Do you know someone who would benefit from being part of WNA?

Feel free to forward our Member Benefits link so they can join too!
